Approximately 80 million people in the United States suffer from some form of TMJ disorder. CuraLase approaches Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ) by conducting a careful screening interview with a qualified practitioner. The screening will determine the correct protocol for patient care. This is an important step in making sure that the patient does not have an acute problem requiring urgent medical attention.
Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ) is a condition characterized by pain of the tendons and muscles of mastication (the muscles that move the jaw) and the temporomandibular joints (the joints which connect the mandible to the skull). The pain causes restricted jaw movement and pain in the joints during jaw movement. It is also a common cause of chronic headaches. TMJ can be detrimental to quality of life because the symptoms can become chronic and difficult to manage. Untreated TMJ may result in the freezing of the jaw.
Patients often experience pain relief during the first treatment and significant relief before the end of the protocol.
